On 15 October 2024, the APM Midlands Network partnered with PMI UK for an insightful event titled "How to Lead a Project Responsibly: RPM in Action." Hosted at University College Birmingham, the session gathered around 60 project professionals, including dedicated volunteers from the Midlands and several attendees who traveled from Glasgow.

The event provided a forum for exploring Responsible Project Management (RPM) and its principles of sustainability, ethics, and social responsibility. Dr Karen Thompson FSI FAPM FHEA introduced RPM as a progressive approach that expands the traditional scope of project management, which has typically focused on time, budget, and scope constraints. Instead, RPM encourages managers to consider the broader societal and environmental impacts of their projects, embedding the triple bottom line of people, planet, and prosperity into project planning and execution to deliver sustainable outcomes.

Attendees actively engaged in group discussions, working with case studies and theoretical frameworks to deepen their understanding of RPM. The event concluded with an interactive group activity, where participants developed innovative solutions to contemporary challenges, applying the principles of RPM to create models that integrated sustainability into project management practices.

This inaugural collaboration between APM and PMI in the Midlands marked a meaningful step in promoting responsible project management within the professional community.
