Decommissioning of APM PPQ, Risk 2 and Major Projects Qualifications

These qualifications are currently going through a decommissioning process, you are still able to start these qualifications, but please keep an eye out for future information regarding a teach out period that is now being consulted on with our Accredited Training Providers.

Frequently asked questions

Could you provide an official statement explaining the withdrawal of the qualifications that I can share with employers or clients?

Reflecting recent levels of demand and changing priorities from the profession, we have announced our plans to decommission the following qualifications:  

  • APM Project Professional Qualification (PPQ)  

  • APM Major Project Leadership Specialist Certificate  

  • APM Project Risk Management Single Subject Certificate – Level 2  

I have yet to sit the exam - can I still achieve my qualification?

Yes. All qualifications and assessments that are being decommissioned can still be achieved. Final sitting dates for exams have yet to be determined and will be announced in December 2025.  

Can reference materials still be accessed on the website during this decommissioning phase?

Yes. All supporting resources and reference materials will remain available on the website for the full duration of the teach-out period, ensuring continued access for both learners and accredited training providers. 

Will my qualification remain fully recognised and valid?

Yes. Your qualification will remain fully recognised, and there are no renewal requirements for it to retain its validity. Your certificate and digital badge will remain valid and will continue to be accepted by employers and professional bodies. 

Will PPQ continue to be accepted for ChPP applications?

Yes. The PPQ will remain a recognised and valid assessment under Pathway 2 for ChPP applications, and can be used as evidence to support your submission. 

Will the PPQ continue to count towards APM membership grades such as MAPM or FAPM?

Yes. The PPQ will continue to be recognised on the membership register for both MAPM and FAPM applications. Please ensure you follow the published guidance when preparing your application. 

Will Risk 1 remain part of the APM qualification suite?

Yes. The Risk 1 qualification will remain available as part of the current qualification suite. 

Will these qualifications be replaced with similar alternatives?

We will continue to work closely with the project profession to review future needs and to develop qualifications that reflect industry requirements. 

Will replacement certificates still be available after these qualifications have been decommissioned?

Yes. Replacement certificates can still be requested once the qualifications have been decommissioned.  

During the teach-out period, will the format, content, and assessment criteria for re-sits remain the same as before the withdrawal of the qualification?

Yes. The format, content, and assessment criteria will remain unchanged during the teach-out period. Candidates will be assessed under the same requirements as before the withdrawal of the qualification. 

Will assessor and marking standards remain the same during the teach-out period?

Yes. Assessors and markers will continue to apply the same standards throughout the teach-out period, ensuring consistency and fairness across all assessments.
