This year's South Wales and West of England Network annual conference, looked at what success means. Could a project be both successful and beautiful? This question was explored using past, present, and future real-life case studies.

View programme and speakers.

We'd like to thank all our sponsors and exhibitors for their support.

Conference theme

We hear a lot about projects that fail, normally in quite a spectacular way, but what about those unsung heroes of successful projects? Join us whilst we hop on board a plane to Colombia to look at new and novel practices that supported the successful delivery of a naval and maritime R&D project. Take a step into the world of defence where we discuss how to avoid the mistakes of the past and see what projects of the future look like. Get involved with our discussion panel where we delve into the changes that we are facing around hybrid working and demonstrating delivery of Social Value.

Most importantly, learn, knowledge share and network as we discuss how you as a project professional can help shape and deliver the Beautiful Projects of tomorrow.

New Colombian Offshore Patrol Vessel Programme

🞇 Dr Luis Serrano-Tamayo, Lecturer, Cardiff Metropolitan University

In the ever-evolving world of shipbuilding projects, the fusion of traditional and novel success factors propels the industry forward and sets higher standards for innovation. This is the case of the “New Colombian Offshore Patrol Vessel” programme, a series of four multi-role ships that combine traditional missions of sea control and combat of transnational crime with scientific capacities to undertake maritime research. This project involved a series of traditional success factors, which involved the application of lessons learned from previous projects consolidated in a robust knowledge management system, a substantial investment in human and material resources, and detailed planning of scope, schedule, and cost.

We'll have AtkinsRealis and Auditory Verbal UK who'll talk about how they built an enduring relationship to accelerate AVUKs strategy - ensuring that all deaf children have the same opportunities in life as their hearing peers. They'll be joined by Weston College, including apprentices, who'll shine a light on what apprenticeships could look like for the next generation of project professionals. They'll put topics such as hybrid working under the spotlight and how we empower our apprentices to become Social Value advocates. Rounding out the panel is Arcadis, Mott MacDonald and Arup, discussing their campaigns to improve the lives of local communities. For example, the local partnerships created with Knowle West Media Centre and Babbasa to support the development of young persons into great careers, linking local projects to community goals, supporting the local economy by using local micro small and medium size businesses and finding ways to protect the environment. Following a brief presentation, delegates will be given the opportunity speak directly to panel to ask questions and share their own observations and experiences.
