Role

APM Regional Network Lead

Purpose 

To drive the volunteering activities and the growth of their community, in close collaboration with the APM staff and the volunteers involved with their Regional Network.

Eligibility 

Aged 18 years or over.  

Associate, Full or Fellow member with at least one year’s APM membership. 

Preferably 3–5 years’ experience in the project management profession or in a project-related role, ideally with experience in leading and motivating a team. 

APM’s onboarding process is to be completed by all volunteers.  

Expectations

  • Lead, maintain and develop a vibrant local community, facilitating knowledge exchange, networking and outreach. 
  • Lead and guide the Network Volunteer Team, to identify and deliver activities providing benefit to the members of the Regional Network community and the project profession (e.g.: CPD and networking events, outreach to prospect members, awards and competitions, cross-profession relationships, initiatives for students and emerging professionals, collaboration with corporates). 
  • Collaborate with the APM staff team to ensure network initiatives align with APM’s objectives and strategy, helping to maximise impact and support the organisation’s mission. 
  • Work with Network Volunteer Team and APM staff to develop annual Action Plan to inform team activities and allocation of resources.  
  • Support and motivate the Network Volunteers, leveraging their interests and skills to achieve the mutually agreed outcomes. 
  • Attend and lead regular Regional Network (monthly) meetings, with Focus stream leads or full volunteer team as required. 
  • Monthly report on the RN’s planned activities and actions agreed in Network meetings, to be shared with APM Staff so resources can be signed off and secured in support. The reporting can be delegated to the Deputy Regional Network Lead. 
  • Ensure that RN volunteer activity follows agreed APM processes 

Estimated time commitment 

  • On average, between 8 and 16 hours per month, with various levels of time commitment depending on the Network activity and peak times. 
  • Attendance at (monthly) Network meetings and events. The expectation is that the Network Lead will attend all meetings. 
  • Attendance at cross-Network meetings. In case of nonavailability, attendance can be delegated to the Deputy Regional Network Lead. 
  • Availability by email, MS Teams and/or APM Community for correspondence with other APM Network volunteers and staff.  
  • The Network Lead will be appointed for a two-year term. 
  • The Network Lead will have the opportunity to be re-appointed for a max. of 2 consecutive terms (4 consecutive years), and for a maximum of 8 consecutive years across both leadership roles (Lead and Deputy).  

Evaluation criteria 

  • Commitment and enthusiasm. 
  • Communication, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills. 
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team of volunteers. 
  • Knowledge of APM’s strategic objectives and activities, and alignment with APM’s values. 
  • Proven experience in the project management profession (ideally 3–5 years), with evidence of leading and motivating a team. 
  • Established network of external contacts in the region (e.g. HEIs, corporates, subject matter experts). 
  • Regional awareness of industry sectors. 
  • Time availability.
