Role

Regional Network Deputy Lead

Purpose

 

Support the Regional Network Lead in driving the volunteering activities and the growth of their local community, in close collaboration with APM staff and the Regional Network volunteers.

Represent the Regional Network in their absence. 

 

Eligibility

Aged 18 years or over.

Student, Associate, Full or Fellow member.

Current experience in the project management profession or in a project related role, ideally with at least 1-2 years’ practical experience or evidence of significant involvement in project activities.

APM’s onboarding process is to be completed by all volunteers.
 

Expectations

  • Support the Regional Network Lead in maintaining and developing a vibrant local community, facilitating knowledge exchange, networking and outreach.
  • Collaboratively agree with the Regional Network Lead on the focus and priorities of the Deputy role, ensuring complementary contributions.
  • Assist the Regional Network Lead in guiding the Network Volunteer Team, to identify and deliver activities providing benefit to the members of the Regional Network community and the project profession (e.g.: CPD and networking events, outreach to prospect members, award and competitions, cross-profession relationships, initiatives for students and emerging professionals, collaboration with corporates).
  • Collaborate with the APM staff team to support alignment of network initiatives with APM’s objectives and strategy, helping to maximise impact and support the organisation’s mission, under the guidance of the Network Lead.
  • Support and motivate Network Volunteers, helping to leverage their interests and skills to achieve agreed outcomes.
  • Attend all the Regional Network (monthly) meetings and step in to lead the meetings in case of absence of the Network Lead.
  • Attend cross-Network meetings in case of absence of the Network Lead.
  • If delegated by the Regional Network Lead, monthly report on the planned activities and the actions agreed in Network meetings, to be shared with APM Staff so resources can be signed off and secured in support.
  • Act on behalf of the Regional Network Lead in case of their absence.
     

Estimated time commitment

  • On average, between 6 and 14 hours per month, with various levels of time commitment depending on the Network activity and peak times.
  • Attendance at (monthly) Network meetings and events. The expectation is that the Network Deputy Lead will attend all meetings.
  • Availability by email, MS Teams and/or APM Community for correspondence with other APM Network volunteers and staff.
  • The Network Deputy Lead will be appointed for a two-year term.
  • The Network Deputy Lead will have the opportunity to be re-appointed for a maximum of 2 consecutive terms (4 consecutive years), and for a maximum of 8 consecutive years across both leadership roles (Lead and Deputy). 

Evaluation criteria

  • Commitment and enthusiasm.
  • Communication, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of APM’s strategic objectives and activities, and alignment with APM’s values.
  • Current experience in the project management profession (ideally 1–2 years), with evidence of involvement in project-related activities or supporting project delivery.
  • Regional awareness of industry sectors.
  • Time availability.
