Entries open

Entries are now open for APM’s Education and Research Awards which will take place at a special ceremony during the Networking Dinner at the APM Conference 2025. This will only be the second time the awards have taken place in-person, so it’s sure to be a very special evening.

The Education and Research Awards aim to recognise and celebrate achievement in the early careers and academic areas of the project profession. With a wide range of categories, the awards showcase the best new talent, acknowledge the contribution of academics, and recognise excellence in research outputs. 

Entries close 16:00 on 11 March 2025. Finalists will be announced on 8 May 2025 and will be invited to attend the APM Networking Dinner on 11 June 2025.

Complimentary ticket for finalists

Finalists will be awarded a complementary Networking Dinner ticket for 11 June 2025 (please note this does not include accommodation or travel). The networking dinner will be at the Coventry Building Society Arena, Coventry.

20% discount for finalists

Finalists will also receive a 20% discount which can be used to purchase a one or two day ticket to attend the APM Conference on 11 and/or 12 June.  

Judges recruitment

We’re currently recruiting for judges for the 2025 Education and Research Awards. If you meet the eligibility criteria below, we'd love to hear from you. Judging is a great way to give something back to the profession whilst also contributing to your own professional development. To be eligible to apply, you must:

  • Be a current APM Full Member OR Fellow OR Honorary Fellow OR Chartered Project Professional
  • AND work full-time as either a project management academic OR researcher Or practitioner
  • AND have at least five year’s experience in the project profession.
  • OR be a winner of a category in the last two Education and Research Awards (2023 and 2024)

Entries for the APM Education and Research Awards are now open. You can view all the categories available for entry below, review the criteria and rules of entry for each and submit your entry when you are ready. Entries close 16:00 on 11 March 2025.

Project Management Apprentice of the Year

This category aims to recognise excellence in a higher or degree apprentice undertaking a Project Management standard within the UK. 

The category is open to those currently on a higher or degree apprenticeship programme as well as those who have completed their programme in 2024. Entrants can either self-nominate or be nominated by their employer but may only enter this category once. Entrants can be members or non-members of APM. 

Project Management Graduate of the Year

This category recognises excellence in achievement for someone who has completed an undergraduate degree in project management.   

The category is open to those who have completed their undergraduate degree in the academic year 2023/24. Entrants can either self-nominate or be nominated by their employer or academic institution but may only enter/ be entered into this category once. Entrants can be members or non-members of APM, from both in and outside of the UK. 

Project Management Postgraduate Dissertation of the Year

This category recognises outstanding dissertations that demonstrate relevance to the project profession. 

The category is open to entrants from all sectors who have completed a masters degree. To be eligible to enter this category the master’s degree must have been awarded and graded in the academic year 2023/24. A dissertation may only be entered into this category once. Entrants can be members or non-members of APM, from both in and outside of the UK.

Project Management Doctorate of the Year

This award recognises an excellent doctoral thesis in a project management related subject. Professional doctorates are also eligible in this category. 

The doctorate must have been awarded in the academic year 2023/2024. A doctoral thesis may only be entered into this category once. Entrants can be members or non-members of APM, from both in and outside of the UK.  

Research Paper of the Year

This award celebrates nominees who have advanced the theory, knowledge and practice of project management through a published academic paper.

To be eligible to enter this category the research paper must have been published (i.e. not online first or early cite) in a peer-reviewed journal in 2024. Blogs will not be accepted. A research paper can only be entered into this category once. Entrants can be members or non-members of APM, from both in and outside of the UK.

Developmental Programme of the year  

This category aims to recognise excellence in the delivery and outcomes/benefits of project management developmental programmes or schemes. This may include (but is not limited to): 

  • Graduate schemes
  • Apprenticeship schemes
  • Career development pathways

The category is open to organisations of all kinds, but the programme must be specifically related to educating and developing project, programme and portfolio management skills in their paid or voluntary employees. Entrants can be members or non-members of APM, from both in and outside of the UK.  

Project Management Educator of the Year 

This award recognises academics whose innovation and passion have transformed a course and inspired students. 

The category is open to institutions, academics themselves or their colleagues, but in all cases the institution must support the submission and student testimonies must be included in the supplementary documentation. Entrants can either self-nominate or be nominated by their employer or academic institution. Entrants can be members or non-members of APM, both from in and outside of the UK. 

Project Management Student of the Year

This is an APM Network Award which celebrates the achievements of students within their local APM community.

This category is open to all full-time or part-time students aged 16 or over and allows students to showcase their skills and achievements in relation to delivery of a specific project which they have been a part of in the last three years.
