Practical applications of sustainable project management concepts in day-to-day project delivery
The climate crisis is one of the defining issues of our time, but what about the role and impact of other sustainability lenses such as equitable labour practices and social impact, and how does any of this connect to our roles as project delivery professionals?
Sustainability as a topic can sometimes seem either too far removed or too vague for those of us delivering change day-to-day to be able to engage in or influence, but thatās not true. Whatever our role or level of seniority, there are things we can do and conversations we can have to help shift the dial on sustainability, and take steps towards folding in sustainability considerations to the way we run programmes, regardless of whether the programme is sustainability-themed.
This session will be of interest to people at all stages of their career, and has particular relevance to those closer to the beginning of their career journey who feel that building sustainability into project management practices is not something they are empowered to do.
This session will explore:
- The business case for sustainability in projects
- How shareholder value and planetary health are not mutually exclusive
- A transformation framework through which firms and project managers can consider their broader sustainability journeys
- Practical applications of industry leading frameworks such as Green Project Managementās P5 framework
- Practical ways you can fold sustainability considerations into the standard PM toolset (e.g. risk & issue management and benefits tracking)
- Ways to have meaningful conversations about this topic with project sponsors and executives
- The role of sustainable finance in successful project delivery and benefits realisation
- The impact of regulations and disclosure requirements on approaches to project prioritisation and solution design, including 4 key considerations for avoiding greenwashing
