Geoff Smethills ChPP FAPM

Geoff is a Chartered Project Professional and Fellow of APM. He has 35 years of experience with international engineering projects and maintenance with Shell plc. He started his career as a craft apprentice and left Shell as their Global Discipline Head for Project Management. He is British but has spent the 18 years up till 2020 living in Malaysia, Singapore and the Netherlands.

During his career in Shell Geoff has held numerous leadership positions in major engineering project development and delivery in multicultural environments. His projects have mainly been complex brownfield with significant operational interface, often requiring leadership of major turnarounds. As Global Discipline Head he was responsible for the development of Shell’s 1500+ project engineering staff and the companies Project Management Framework for development and delivery of their $20B annual capital project program. He also led Shell’s technology development program ‘Future of Construction’.

Geoff now lives in Shropshire working as a project lecturer and consultant as well as a senior advisor to a number of digital technology providers.
