APM Sustainability Award
The winner of this category has now been announced. Congratulations to all our finalists in this category.
A unique award recognising organisations or individual projects that demonstrate environmental sustainability practices in the development and delivery of their projects.
We live and work in a world where climate change and its consequences are of increasing business and societal concern. The APM Sustainability Award recognises the commitment of organisations, project managers and their teams to run more sustainable, ethical, and environmentally friendly projects.
The APM Sustainability Award is given to the team whose approach to project delivery demonstrates the most effective use of project management and the greatest benefits and outcomes to end users whilst adopting strategies throughout the project cycle to minimise any negative impact on the environment and society.
We require entrants to the APM Sustainability Award to produce a submission (in English) of 1,500-2,500 (in English) words based on the judging criteria for that category. Entrants may also submit up to four supporting images or graphics only (no text apart from captions). Video and audio is not accepted as part of the submission.
The APM Sustainability Award category consists of one written stage only (mentioned above) and is open to organisations/individual projects across all sectors globally.
Winner | Jacobs Approach to Embedding Sustainability into Every Project, Jacobs
Sustainability remains a critically important priority for Jacobs. It’s embedded in our purpose, from the way we operate our business to the sustainable solutions we co-create with clients and partners. We continue to seek ways of making positive environmental, societal and economic differences for businesses, governments and communities around the world.
To ensure every project is a climate response opportunity we embed sustainability through our global sustainability strategy, PlanBeyond 2.0. This is the foundation of what sustainability means to our people, our clients and the planet — integrating sustainability objectives throughout operations and client solutions in alignment with the UNSDGs.

Finalist | DFT & HS2 delivering the most sustainable high speed railway of its kind in the world, High Speed 2 Ltd
HS2 is more than a railway. It will change the economic geography of our country, bringing our largest regions closer together with reliable, fast and high-capacity travel options, helping to level up the country, supporting sustainable development. HS2 is a long-term investment in growth in our communities.
It will help stimulate economic and social sustainability by creating opportunities to increase affordable housing, create jobs and attract businesses. HS2 will revolutionise the UK Rail Network, creating capacity for millions of extra people to travel in a more environmentally sustainable way, helping meet the government’s ambition to reach net zero by 2050.
Finalist | Low Crosby Flood Risk Management Scheme, Environment Agency
Through exemplary collaboration and engagement, Low Crosby Flood Risk Management Scheme implements an entirely nature-based, carbon sequestration solution to reduce flood risk to 95 properties, deliver £15M of benefit and provide long-term climate resilience.
To better plan and adapt to increasing flood risk, this project takes a radically different approach. Instead of building ever higher defences, the entirely nature-based solution involved lowering a 3km private embankment on the opposite bank of the river to reconnect 185ha of historic floodplain. This maximises the natural conveyance capacity and significantly reduces flood levels at Low Crosby.

Specifically emphasising the construction and operation of a state-of-the-art Sewage Treatment Plant which was completed in March 2023.
This significantly reduced wastewater disposal from the site, we used water in a more sustainable manner, contributed to a more environmentally responsible operation, and took action to achieve our Carbon Net Zero targets, both for KBR and the UK Government.
