the Best Out of Both
Worlds
Achieving the right balance between both knowledge and experience is essential for the professional development of the project manager.
This presentation outlines the key features of a Masters Degree course led by an academic - industry partnership: The School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering and Rolls-Royce in consortium with AMEC, Goodrich and EDS. In the UK, the programme has circa. 200 delegates ongoing and has graduated well over 100. The presentation addresses the objectives, design, curriculum development, management, steering and cross-cultural collaboration aspects of this successful programme. It also describes findings from research on benefit metrics with respect to project management education using the programme as a case study.
Professor Andrew Gale
Professor Andrew Gale spent 13 years in industry both in the UK and Middle East prior to beginning an academic career in 1985. He is a chartered civil engineer, Professor and Head of the Project Management Research Group SIG in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at
The University of Manchester. He has published over 100 articles
Mike Brown
Mike is a Chartered Manager, a Fellow of the Chartered
Management Institute and a Fellow of the Association
for Project Management. He has 35 years' experience
in the management of pharmaceutical, refinery,
petrochemical, power and change projects and
programmes. Currently Head of the Rolls-Royce Centre
for Project Management. Mike is the Consortium
Programme Director for the Project Management
Professional Development Programme based at
University of Manchester. He is Chair of the British
Standards Institute Committee MS/2
